Sculpture of The Kahina,
by Kahlil Bendib, Berkeley, California
The Berber woman known as The Kahina led a massive resistance to the invasion of Arabs in Nroth Africa in the 7th century.
She was from a Jewish group of the Aures Mountains, the Djawara. Her battle cry was "Onward, Lions of Judah! Onward
Lions of Africa!"
One of her sons, Tarik, led some of the Berber troops that were recruited by the Arabs to go into Spain, and gave his name
to The Rock of Gibraltar. (Djebel Tarik)
